Maine Bike Rally-2008

Published by Erik at 9:08 am under events

I just spent an awesome weekend up in Fryburg, Maine at the Bicycle Coalition of Maine’s Bike Rally. This year’s event coincided with the national League of American Bicyclists rally so it had over 500 people attending. Lots of camping, riding, laughing and generally being immersed in bike community. My daughter got to ride her bike in the parade, which was a major highlight for her and us. She is only two but her little specialized velocopede is turning out to be a fantastic learning bike for her. No training wheels for this girl!

Both my wife and I got to ride bikes as well as a little trip in a hot air balloon with the kids. The weather was perfect and the scenery, food and organization fantastic.  We are still hunting for a tandem and thought we found a used one but it turned out to be too tall.  However we did get to see many fine examples of tandems and talk to couples towing kids with them and such which was great research.

My wife rocked the house by entering a time trial for the first time. On her mountain bike no less! She lined up among the high end carbon fiber speed machines on her mountain bike with slicks and fenders. Yeah baby!

We came away with a renewed validation that the bicycle community is just a fun group of people. And we can’t wait to go again next year!
