February 2010 Bike in a Box class at Bowdoin College
In early February we were back at Bowdoin College with a room full of bike parts and a full house of students building bikes from the ground up. This is the third or fourth year of this (I’m losing track!) and it’s just as fun as the first time. This time I had an old friend, Maria Wherely, helping me teach. She and I worked together at The Bicycle Shop, my first bike shop, many years ago. She is starting a bicycle touring company in central Pennsylvania called See Jane Ride. Many thanks to Maria for flying in to help teach this class.
This class is a 25 hour event. It starts on Friday evening after dinner and goes until 9pm. Well, I should say that I left then but most students were still going strong.
The class went well and the Yellow Bike Program ended up with 6 new bikes to add to their fleet. Many thanks to the students, Maria and Bree for great energy and camaraderie. I would write more about it but Bowdoin already did, so take a look at their write up and photos here.
