Meet Your Bike
Get to know the names, care and feeding of your bike. This class is a great compliment to the Roadside Repair class. Learn your headset from your fixed cup and never call it a thing-a-ma-jig again. Bring your bike. It will thank you.
This class includes:
What does what: The great thing about fixing bikes is that most of the parts you need to look at are right out in the open. Lets start with what these things are called and what they do.
Routine maintenance: This covers the basics that all riders should look at periodically to prevent breakdowns during rides.
Systems: This is more conceptual, using great props, to help you understand what is happening in the places you can’t usually see inside of. A basic understanding of the three systems (rotational, skeletal, and transmission) will help tremendously when determining what is and what isn’t working and where to start looking to find out.
Diagnosis techniques: Once you understand what does what, we will show you how to look at your bike to track down any bad habits it may have.
Correct names: We really don’t mind if you still call it a thing-a-ma-jig, but throughout this class we will introduce the proper names of the parts you are working with. That way, if you walk into a shop, you can amaze them with your wealth of bike knowledge, or at least be able to describe accurately, what you want them to look at.
Tools: We will show you the on-board tools as we go along and how to use them. We also give you lists of the tools to have on your bike and what you may want at home.

Time: This class takes 3 hours and time flies. Bring your bike and whatever tools/supplies you ride with.
Attire: Dress to make a little mess. Shirts and pants often end up with a fine black tire/brake dust on them and a few grease spots, which don’t always wash out.
Location: This class requires a place to spread out, usually on the floor or ground. An open room, a garage floor or a sunny lawn all work quite well.
