Dont Walk Home! (Roadside Bicycle Repair)
If you take only one bike repair class, take this one. This class can be the difference between riding or walking home. This class covers what you need to be able to ride home, not walk home and it does it at your pace. You will walk away knowing:
Pre-ride check: Most of the times people get stuck on the side of the road it is with a problem they had before they left but didn’t notice. Learn how to quickly check your bike before you ride far away.
Flat tire repair: A simple skill that can leave you smiling with success or cursing in despair. We will show you on YOUR bike and make sure you have the tools you need.
This may not seem like much but it can take a while to learn this on your bike using your ( or our) tools. We want you to practice it here, in class and get answers to working with your own equipment. Once you do it our way, you will KNOW you’ve learned it. That leads to empowerment and that it what our classes are all about.
If you fly through those two items, we may cover one or several of the items below. Typically we do, but sometimes it just takes a while to get through a tube replacement and so we don’t want to say for sure that we will cover it all. Better to know a few things very well than a lot of things only vaguely. When you are on the road by yourself, having “seen it done once” isn’t going to cut it.
Brakes: Have you ever bent your wheel enough to have to disconnect your brakes so you could ride home? We can help.
Chains: Can you fix it if it breaks? Can you tell if it might break? You will be able to do both after this class.
Gears: Understand how they should work in the first place as well as what to adjust if they start misbehaving before or during a ride.
Tools: We cover what to ride with and how to use them. We also give you lists of the tools to have on your bike and what you may want at home.

Time: This class takes 2.5 hours and time flies. Bring your bike and whatever tools/supplies you ride with.
Attire: Dress to make a little mess. Shirts and pants often end up with a fine black tire/brake dust on them and a few grease spots, which don’t always wash out.
Location: This class requires a place to spread out, usually on the floor or ground. Plan on spending some time sitting on the floor. After all, if you break down on the side of the road, you are unlikely to have brought a real chair!
